SPOTLIGHT

In April, we remember the events 25 years ago that led to the 1994 Rwandan genocide. There is still much to investigate about the genocide, about what local leaders and the world community could have done, and about the role of justice in the aftermath. At Strategy for Humanity, we commit to learning lessons that surround genocide, developing knowledge and tools to address the causes of conflict, and working to prevent the recurrence of atrocity crimes.

Strategy for Humanity, on behalf of the Friends Committee on National Legislation and Education Fund, facilitated a multi-stakeholder process to form and then lead the Experts Committee on Prevention of Mass Violence, which convened to prepare a guiding document for government actions to prevent mass violence. Strategy for Humanity's Charles Brown served as chief author of the report entitled "A Necessary Good: U.S. Leadership on Preventing Mass Atrocities," which provides a detailed and compelling roadmap fo make the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy. How can we support your thought-leadership? Read more about here.

Strategy for Humanity's Will Ferroggiaro specializes in analysis of hate speech, which fueled the genocide. And Strategy for Humanity's Ben Batros served previously as Appeals Counsel for the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court to enable investigations and justice. How can we help you achieve your vision and mission?   Read more here.

At Strategy for Humanity we celebrate differences in learning and capacity and we support full social, economic and political participation of persons with disabilities. April is Autism Acceptance Month, dedicated to spreading awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder. Autism is a broad spectrum that includes Aspergers Syndrome and many with ADHD. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now estimate that one in 59 children in the United States are on the autism spectrum, and that the prevalence for boys 4.5 times higher than for girls. We join calls for equality, equity and inclusion of individuals on the Autism Spectrum and we recognize how our individual differences make our whole society better.

Strategy for Humanity's Alex Arriaga co-authored an award winning resource manual (available here) for families with children with special needs in the public school system and co-edited the Spanish translation (available here). This resource manual is now standard issue in the Arlington County (Virginia) public school district. How can we help you create curriculum and tools to support those who may be most vulnerable? Read more here.
